Last Thursday, the Eurosceptics of the UK Independence Party [UKIP] received more votes than the main opposition Conservative Party in a local by-election in north-east England. Robert Kilroy-Silk, a former television chat show host and now the UKIP’s most high-profile figure, has since declared that the Conservative Party is “dying” and “what we have to do is kill it”.He is campaigning for Britain to leave the European Union, and has also revealed his ambition to be leader of his party. Mr. Kilroy-Silk stepped down as a BBC presenter in January 2004 after making controversial remarks about Arabs in a newspaper column. He talks to Tim Sebastian.
